FANCY THE LADDER FOR LUNCH?

A premium version of Bob Moog’s classic 1969 Moog Modular Transistor-Ladder Filter, “The Ladder” is in fact much improved, and ready for professional audio processing applications. A high-pass mode, drive stage, variable 2 and 4 pole modes, and envelope follower with separate controls for attack and decay are all present, and allow for The Ladder to perform a great many functions beyond just traditional filtering.

The Ladder provides a host of controls for dynamic filtering, sweetening, sculpting and drive, and is exclusively available for the popular API 500 Lunchbox format. It can be used as a mix tool - enhancing or cutting high and low frequencies, but can do much more:

ADAM launches the A77X Hi-Performance Mid / Near Field Monitor

ADAM Audio, a leader in the field of professional monitoring, has launched the new A77X.

The A77X features the company’s highly acclaimed X-ART tweeter, new woofers and amplifiers, in completely re-designed speaker cabinets.
A valuable addition ADAM’s award-winning AX-Series, which ranges from the ultra-compact professional A3X, to the high performance A8X systems.
In addition, the woofers and amplifiers have also been re-engineered from scratch, with larger voice-coils and more powerful amplifiers for greater linear excursion and more output. A 5-year warranty is provided for all models.

In some set-ups it can be advisable to use a horizontally designed speaker rather than a vertical one. Until now, such monitors were only available within the SX top end monitors.
The brand new A77X is equipped with the same advanced technologies as the highly acclaimed A7X. It therefore is very similar to the two-way speaker. The A77X, however, distinguishes itself by much higher, compression-free maximum sound pressure levels and dynamics. Due to its power and radiation characteristics, it is perfectly suited for both near- and midfield monitoring.

Like all models of the AX, the A77X features the ADAM proprietary X-ART tweeter. The ‘X’ stands for ‘eXtended frequency response’ and thus for one of the features of the Accelerating Ribbon Technology that has been drastically improved: the frequency response. It now extends all the way up to 50kHz. In addition, the X-ART tweeter has higher efficiency and higher maximum sound pressure levels.
The two 7” woofers feature large voice coils (1.5”) and powerful amplifiers. As a result, they are capable of both very high maximum sound pressure levels as well as very deep registers. The woofers cover the different frequency bands: one of them is responsible for the (sub-) bass frequencies up to about 400Hz, the other takes over most of the midrange. The response is remarkable for such a small enclosure going from 38Hz -50kHz.

Sonnox has just released new AU and VST versions of the Oxford Plug-ins for both Windows and Mac, which support full 64-bit compatibility and have updated GUIs. In addition, we will be adding AAX-Native support free of charge to licence holders of the new native versions.

Customers buying now who wish to run the new 64-bit compatible AU and VST versions, will require an iLok 2.

Pro Tools customers: since Pro Tools is not yet 64-bit, there are no 64-bit versions for Pro Tools and customers can use the current RTAS software, and use the blue iLok 1.

The new Native licences will also support the Pro Tools AAX-Native format. This software will be released in 2012 - starting with the Oxford EQ and Inflator, in January. Coldplay's current massive world tour is using a number of Earthworks microphones. Their live sound engineer Dan Green recently auditioned a number of Earthworks microphones from UK distributor Unity Audio, specifically for drummer Will Champion's kit.

The Culture Vulture Solo is a new development of the Vulture recently designed with help from Vic's young protégé Ricky Sharp. There is more of a focus on use with guitar and bass di / amplifier front end applications but the unit also retains all the useful features for line level applications that previous models, including the Limited edition Culture Vulture, offered.

The Culture Vulture Solo is a single channel unit in a 2U 19" rack chassis. It features the ability to switch, via the front panel or a dedicated footswitch, between the Clean and Dirty channels.

The Clean channel is an active channel that provides up to 35dB variable gain to an instrument level signal with a flat but warm sounding frequency response.

Then we graduated to takinga Pro Tools rig out on the road - not for the feint haearted...

Thermionic Culture have released a new version of the Mastering valve compressor, the Mastering Plus. The classic hand built point to point wired soft knee compressor has a compression ratio from 1.2:1 to 5:1 at 15dB of compression and uses Mullard and Siemens valves and custom Sowter transformers.

Following on from the success of the previous models including the red face anniversary limited edition the new model features new switched and stepped rotary controls for quick and easy recall. The input gain features a 24 position ELMA, a 11 position ELMA for the Threshold, 6 position ALPHA attack and release and a 31 position OMEG stepped output pot. The same side chain filter section as previous versions has been retained.

A significant difference to the previous M/C versions is the the Mastering Plus now has the same input gain structure as the standard model Phoenix, enabling the mastering Plus to cope with tracking and mixing of individual instruments and vocals that may require high amounts of compression.

Other new features include a standby switch which is provided to extend valve and capacitor life. When in 'standby' the HT current through the valves is only 50% of the normal value. The meter zero level adjusters have now been brought to the front panel to avoid having to take the unit out of the rack and so making calibration easier.

Gavin Miller, Kazbar Systems' director explains, “When Universal decided to go for the cleanest signal path with their studio upgrade, we needed a solution for their mic pre requirements. The Audient ASP008 was the obvious choice.”

London Philharmonic Orchestra record Olympic Anthems at Abbey Road Studios

In preparation of London 2012, 205 Olympic anthems have been recorded at Abbey Road Studios by the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO).

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Ltd (LOCOG) awarded the contract to record the 205 national anthems required for the London 2012 Games Victory Ceremonies (medal ceremonies) and Team Welcome Ceremonies to the LPO in April.

The LPO recorded the anthems at Abbey Road Studios using 36 musicians, taking over 50 recording hours, with final sessions taking place in September 2011.

The arrangements for the anthems are by British composer, conductor and cellist Philip Sheppard. Philip specialises in film and television soundtracks, large scale theatre and events and is a Professor at the Royal Academy of Music.

Philip Sheppard said: “I'm very excited about working with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, a truly world class group of musicians. We'll be recording every national anthem of the world in the world famous Abbey Road Studios that have been graced by so many incredible artists, so I hope that spirit of creativity and industry accompanies us on this enormous undertaking.”

We are delighted to be part of the 2012 Olympic recordings following our involvement with the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, when Abbey Road Studios engineer Simon Rhodes headed the Chinese recording team at the spectacular opening ceremony, in what was the country's most ambitious recording to date. In five weeks they recorded every orchestra and choir in Beijing, the Red Army band, all manner of traditional Chinese instruments and drums, quadruple-tracked twenty guzhengs and doubled sixty pipas!”
